Re: volvo stern gland

Don't have one of these myself - still old "stuffing box" - but see the post further down the Maintenance forum on "Stern Gland" and I think you will find the advice you're looking for.

Re: Engine Types

305lb /139kg is correct, Colin, but S drive does not apply - that is for boats fitted with "saildrive" instead of conventional prop shaft. So the VP2002 is 80lb lighter than the MD7A. Quite a lot of beer! The MD7A at 175kg seems 9kg heavier than the minimum weight allowed so I am going to have a loo...

Re: Engine Types

David, just for reference as you put this stuff together, I have the Volvo Penta manual for the MD7A which is still installed in "Sigmatic". The weight of "engine plus MSB reverse gear" is 385lb / 175kg. My understanding is that later boats, built with the VP 2002 installed, had correctors to come b...

Re: confirming OOD status

Anarchy is a dangerous substance, Colin. Be careful. Clubs should absolutely NOT be running IRC handicap racing using ratings based on other similar boats' rating certificates. The IRC Rating Offices (RORC Rating in the UK) would be justifiably upset about this. If you use someone else's product (or...

Round the Isle of Man Race 2014

This great race is usually one of the first of the season – first weekend in May – Bank Holiday Weekend - Sunday 4th May. There is a dedicated SIGMA CUP, well contested by Sigmas from the Irish Sea. ISORA 2014

The programme for this popular series is now available. Sigma 33 participants have historically done very well. ELANDRA, OBSESSION, MISBIHAVIN, RUPPERT, PIPPA 4 and winner of the SILVER CLASS for 2013 Polished Manx contested 12 races in 2013. 2014 looks equally exciting. Details below and on http://...

Re: Scottish Series 2013

You were on an upward trajectory Stuart, and we look forward to seeing you at Helensburgh. I hope you enjoyed what proved to be quite a tough series, and maybe mid-summer up the Clyde will be a bit less stressful ... or not!

Re: Storm Jib

I will consult sailmakers in due course. At present, of course, we only have one. Murray Caldwell (ex-Sigma owner and NH Sails http://www.n-hsails.co.uk proprietor) is advertising in the 2013 Handbook and a very worthy potential source of cruising sails, sprayhoods, etc so I will ask him sooner rath...

Re: Storm Jib

OK David, I stand corrected. I think one route towards resolution of this could be to respect Organising Authority decision-making on event category, and for the Class Association to agree that items on the SIF that go beyond the EVENT category are optional as opposed to mandatory. This could either...
