Class Championships 2013

Post by Donald McLaren » Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:36 pm

The 2013 Class Championships will be at Helensburgh on 21st to 23rd June. Helenburgh is on the Upper Clyde - sail north until land gets in the way, then a quick right/left and you're there! The town has lots of hotel and B&B accommodation - see http://www.lovelochlomond.com for details, and since Loch Lomond is "just over the hill" there are plenty of other things to do.

The combined Notice of Race + General Information + Entry Form can be downloaded here http://www.sigma33.co.uk/file/NOR_Info_EntryForm.pdf and a Word Form is also available for entry via email http://www.sigma33.co.uk/file/Word_Form_for_Entry.doc

Rhu Marina is less than half a mile from Helensburgh Sailing Club. It is operated by Quay Marinas. They have reciprocity agreements between their sister marinas, plus discounted berthing for all other visitors is available before, during, and after the event. It should also be possible to arrange swinging moorings, by arrangement nearer the time, for visitors arriving early and/or departing late.

Other major events worth considering are Scottish Series at Tarbert in May and West Highland Week in late July. Not to mention unparalleled cruising opportunities ... The Clyde Yacht Clubs' Association website http://www.cyca-online.org.uk offers a route into seeing what's on and where.

Visitors will be made most welcome and should contact Donald McLaren (Sigmatic) or Alan Harper (Leaky Roof 2) for advice or assistance.

Ephesian is seriously considering a trip North this year, and if we do we'd love to enter the Class Championships .. assuming we can persuade enough crew to travel up! We might have to see if we can recruit a few "locals" to make up the numbers, so if anyone does know of crew who aren't already committed and might be interested, do let me know!

We'd probably also try and do one or other of the Scottish Series or West Highland Week..

Stuart, for various reasons me and my crew may be available, although we're not fully race trained. We all live in the North West, so can't guarantee anything at the moment, but if you get stuck, drop me a line. (Also on Facebook as Wild Urchin)

Dear All,

It's not too late to enter the Class Championships which will be held next month. There are 10 races planned over the 3 days with the possibility of a medium distance race if the weather plays along. There are also great prizes from a large number of sponsors and a fantastic social program lined up.

The late entry fee kicks in on the 1st June so make sure your entry is in before that.

With 10 days to go, we have 12 confirmed entries and have interest from at least another 11 that we know of at this point.

In addition, to make sure you receive the tickets you require for the Class Championship Dinner on the Saturday evening please get your entry in as soon as possible. The catering for the Saturday is from an outside caterering firm so Helensburgh Sailing Club do not have complete control of numbers. The earlier everybody enters the more chance we have of getting numbers increased if required.

Hope to see you all there, and if you have any queries don't hesitate to contact me.

Alan Harper

I'm looking for a crew slot for the 2013 nationals. Available all 3 days plus possibly a practice beforehand.

Getting on for 30 years keelboat racing experience. Lochlongs, Sonatas & currently driving an Impala 'Mercenary'. Have had some experience racing 33s but not for about 10 years. Happy to do most jobs on board, probably most time spent recently (other than driving) as trimmer or main. 188cm & 95kg if that sort of thing's important.

What a championship !!!

Donald and your team - big thank you :D

Results are available http://www.halsraceresults.com/crs/crs. ... eriesKey=3

Congratulations to SIGMATIC for being 1st
Close Encounters being 2nd and
Squawk for 3rd place.

SULA won Silver Fleet Class

All very close racing with top positions changing almost everyday (almost as Close Encounter was extremely consistent but so was Squawk) this however did not help them as SIGMATIC once again proved to be ... THE BEST :)

We at the bottom of the table had pour "private" race excitement with ROUNDABOUT (Boat from Shetland Islands !!!), ELANDRA (Dun Loagharie), POLISHED MANX (IOM) and ENCHANTRESS all finishing very, very close to each other :).

Last day saw 2 races with some fabulous broaches - one won by RAJAH :D

I gather the 2014 Class championship will be held in Abersoch. This is likely to be about as close as they will ever come to Pembrokeshire and so I am considering entering. In order that I don't find myself committed to other arrangements, it would be very useful to know the dates for the event. Does anyone know if these have yet been settled?
