S.C. Owners and Crew Social Event

Post by David Crawforth » Wed Oct 12, 2011 6:36 pm

SIGMA 33 OWNERS & CREW SOCIAL EVENT - 23rd November 2011.

The Sigma 33 South Coast Committee (Jeff Worboys, Andy Johns, Dave Crawforth and Jo Chugg) are very interested in your thoughts and ideas for the 2012 sailing and social calendar. We would love to hear about the type of sailing you are most interested in, whether that be racing or cruising and what type of events you would be most likely to participate in next year. We are really keen to build a calendar that will cater for all Sigma owners who are keen to sail and socialise in the company of other Sigma's during next season.

Look forward to seeing you on 23 November.

LOCATION: The Tattershall Castle Riverboat Bar, London http://www.thetattershallcastle.co.uk (The Cove Room)
TIME: 1900hrs

The Sigma 33 South Coast Committee (Richard Puddifoot, Jeff Worboys, Andy Johns, Dave Crawforth and Jo Chugg) have booked the venue for meeting up with owners and crews for a few drinks and a chat about ideas for the 2012 sailing and social calendar.

We have had a few ideas, but we think the best way to encourage more boats along to Sigma events is to speak to you and get a feel for the type of sailing you are interested in doing in 2012, and then build a calendar for next year around those ideas.

Ideas so far:
- A coaching day, where the class will arrange for a top RYA coach to join us for a day to improve racing skills. This will be followed by a de-briefing from the coach with video and a chance to enjoy a few drinks together.
- A Solent cruise over one of the bank holiday weekends, visiting all the favorite spots, including Yarmouth, Newtown Creek etc, with a class BBQ - weather permitting!!
- Less of the traditional one-day regattas and more double-handed / passage events.

Please join Jeff, Andy, Dave, Jo and Richard at a social gathering for Sigma 33 sailors (please invite your crews).

We have reserved "The Cove Room" at The Tattershall Castle - a bar literally on the River Thames in London on Wednesday 23rd November, where we can get together for a few drinks and some light food and talk about the best way of taking the class forward in 2012.

We really hope you can join us - please let us know if you still can.

If you are already busy that day, we would still love to hear from you regarding your ideas for the 2012 calendar - so please do send us your thoughts.

Ladies and Gents

Those who attended - please let us - those who could not have been in London on that day - know what was discussed and more importantly agreed please. ;)

It is that time of the year that I would like to plan in order to avoid disappointments, and not being able to attend races or events otherwise worth attending.

If I may influence our way of thinking than I would like to share with you our thoughts regarding sailing / racing in 2012.

aa/ Very pleased to see Championship happening in the Irish Sea, but very well aware that 2013 will no doubt see us all down south :D

bb/ Dublin area with Dan Laoghaire and Howth marinas provided excellent racing last year and I am looking forward to racing there in 2012

cc/ Scottish Series - end of May - always great sailing - no doubt it will be the same this coming year with hopefully more than 7 Sigmas

dd/ West Highland Yachting Week - superb racing. Pity there were only 3 Sigmas 33 racing in 11 strong class - I am hoping we (Sigmas) will get better in 2012
For the first time West Highland Week gathered more boats than Scottish Series

ee/ There is obviously Cork Week this year and

ff/ Instead of Fastnet there is Round the Ireland race (equally tough one and slightly longer 730Nm ) starting 24th June

Therefore there should be plenty of IRC off shore racing where Sigmas could cross swords - no better paths or maybe wakes?

It would be really great if we could talk among the clubs and maybe boats and make sure that we keep each other up to speed with our plans in order to participate in as many events as possible.

Believe we are still the most race represented class but J's and First's are closing pretty fast on us

Kuba,

the event was an informal gathering. It was mainly Richard, Jeff and Andy going around the room discussing ideas with owners and crew, and concerning ideas for the South Coast boats. Also a number of emails were sent in by those who could not make it to the evening.

There will probably be an informal gathering at the London Boat Show http://www.londonboatshow.com/2012/visi ... times.aspx, possibly at the end of Thursday 12th (the late closing day), but the day is to be confirmed. It would be great to see a good number of Sigma33 sailors, particularly any who come from further afield.

David

many thanks for the notice for the 12th I am presently booked on the ferry for 13th in order to attend 14-15 of the boat show but could probably reschedule in order to attend our informal gathering. When do you think details of the meeting will be available - Boat show is a bit to broad for ma navigational skills and time please. Those from further a field need to make arrangements (ferry or flight )

Richard, Jeff, Andy when reading:

any chance you could share with us your finding :)

Looking forward to seeing you guys in London in two weeks time

Dear Ladies and Gents

Having no response from you  I have to advise that I am giving up on the meeting which "might be" on the 12th. Not enough information to book flights or ferry to attend. I will keep my ravel plans as before - attending Boat Show on the 14th.

Well, I will be there for the evening of the 12th, and Dom White too, although there is no 'organised' meeting. It would be good to meet anyone else who will be there then. Please P.M. if interested.
